Halloween Mondays: Best Witches Treat Pretty Pillowboxes

Halloween is on a Monday this year and I’ll be counting down to Halloween with a new Halloween project on Mondays until October 31st.

Card Measurements, Supply List, and printable PDF tutorial for these projects are found after each project.

I love the super cute 2022-2023 Annual Catalog Pretty Pillowbox dies. The Pretty Pillowbox dies create a great treat box that works for so many occasions and is a fabulous addition to your stash! I have two ways to build your pillowbox – with a top opening box and a side opening box. I also dry embossed my boxes with the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder, the Decorative Circle punch, and the adorable witch image from the Best Witches stamp set. It’s so easy to make this pillowbox look awesome without too much product because keep in mind that a Halloween treat box is just the delivery system for the goodie and will most likely end up in the trash.

Start by die cutting a Basic Black cardstock pillowbox with the Pretty Pillowbox dies. Use the bone folder to burnish all the pillowbox score lines. Dry emboss the pillowbox with the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder.

Add the glue to the side flaps that are on the side of the top stitched flap so that the sides are smooth on the front of the pillowbox.

Use the bone folder to reburnish the score lines on your pillowbox and to slightly curl the box.

Form the pillowbox by using glue to close the pillowbox’s sides using your fingers to help keep the box’s shape. Once the sides are glued closed your pillowbox is a pocket with the opening at the top.

Punch a Basic Black cardstock decorative circle with the Decorative Circle Punch and dry emboss the circle with the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder. Use the bone folder to slightly curl the circle.

I did get a little carried away with the dimensionals.

Use Black Stampin’ Dimensionals to add the embossed slightly curled circle to the front of the pillowbox, putting the dimensionals only on the bottom of the circle.

The stitched top will tuck under the circle.

Wrap the box with the Fresh Freesia Open Weave ribbon tucked under the embossed circle and tie in a bow on the side of the pillowbox.

Stamp the witch image from the Best Witches stamp set on Basic White cardstock in Memento Black ink. Color the image with Stampin’ Blends and add Wink of Stella for sparkle. Fussy cut out the image with paper snips and glue it to the embossed circle on the pillowbox. Add rhinestones to the embossed circle around the image.

I tucked a Reece’s Peanut Butter Cup Thins in this pillowbox.

Start by die cutting a Basic Black cardstock pillowbox with the Pretty Pillowbox dies. Use the bone folder to burnish all the pillowbox score lines. Dry emboss the pillowbox with the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder. Punch two Basic Black cardstock decorative circles with the Decorative Circle Punch and dry emboss the circles with the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder.

Use the bone folder to reburnish the score lines on your pillowbox and to slightly curl your box. Form the pillowbox by gluing the stitched top of the pillowbox down to the body of the box.

Once the top is glued down your pillowbox is a tube with the openings on both sides. Create notches in the side back flaps (inner) to make the pillowbox easier to open using a hole punch (or 1/8″ or 1/2″ circle punch) and paper snips. Use your fingers to close the flaps and to help keep the box’s shape.

I used my retired 1/8″ circle punch to start the notch and then used my paper snips to round the edges of the notch.

Wrap the pillowbox with the Metallic Mesh ribbon (about 22″). After making sure the ribbon is tight against the box and the loose ends are even and use black Stampin’ Dimensionals to add an embossed circle to the ribbon centered on the pillowbox (but don’t press the circle down and attach it to the box).

Remove the Metallic Mesh ribbon from the pillowbox, flip over the ribbon and add the second embossed Basic Black cardstock circle to the back of the first circle (add glue dots if the dimensionals aren’t sticky enough through the ribbon. Then rewrap the pillowbox so the embossed circle is in the center of the box again and tie with a bow.

Stamp the witch image from the Best Witches stamp set on Basic White cardstock in Memento Black ink. Color the image with Stampin’ Blends and add Wink of Stella for sparkle. Fussy cut out the image with paper snips and glue it to the embossed circle on the ribbon around the pillowbox. Add rhinestones to the embossed circle around the image.

I added a snack size Hershey’s bar.
