Whale Watching Stargazing Card

Card Measurements and Supply List for this project are found at the bottom of this blog post.

For this week’s Global Design Project theme challenge I used the September-December 2023 Annual Catalog Whale Watching stamp set that will be available starting September 6th. This fabulous new set coordinates with the many beach/sea stamp sets in the 2023-2024 Annual Catalog but for this card I was inspired by my memory of my elementary school Trapper Keepers and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. With encouragement from my stamping friends, I paired the Whale Watching stamp set with the Stargazing Suite and the cloud dies from the Waves dies to create this fun card.

Start with a Berry Burst cardstock card base. Cut a Stary Sky Holographic Trio Specialty paper panel and a Stargazing Designer Series Paper panel. Since only the outer edge of the Stary Sky Holographic Trio Specialty paper shows I used a scalloped rectangle from the Scalloped Contours dies to cut out the middle to use on a future project. Glue the Stargazing Designer Series Paper panel to the Stary Sky Holographic Trio Specialty paper. Glue the panels to the card front so that the panels are flush with the bottom edge of the card base.

Die cut and fussy cut some Stargazing Designer Series Paper planets with the Reach For The Stars dies & paper snips. Die cut Holographic Trio Specialty paper small planet rings with the Reach For The Stars dies. Use glue dots to add the planets and planet with the rings to the card front. Stamp the whales from the Whale Watching stamp set in Memento Black ink on Basic White cardstock. Fussy cut out the whales with paper snips. Color the waves on the whale image with Tahitian Tide Stampin’ Blends and then add Wink of Stella on both whales for sparkle. Add the whales to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Die cut a Stary Sky Holographic Trio Specialty paper label layer and Basic White cardstock sentiment label with the Something Fancy dies. Stamp the sentiment from the Reach For The Stars stamp set in Berry Burst ink on the Basic White cardstock label. Use glue dots to add the sentiment label to the Stary Sky Holographic Trio Specialty paper label layer and then use glue dots to add the labels to the bottom right side between the whales. Die cut Holographic Trio Specialty paper clouds with the Waves dies. Add the clouds to the card front overlapping the planets, tucked under the whale, and overlapping the labels. Add Adhesive-Backed Sparkle Gems to the card front for more sparkle.

Add a Basic White cardstock inside panel to write your message. Stamp the sentiment from the Reach For The Stars stamp set in Berry Burst ink and add a strip of Stargazing Designer Series Paper to the inside and back of the card to pull the theme through. I also added a fussy cut whale & planet, and die cut cloud to the inside of the card overlapping the strip of Designer Series Paper.

I hope you enjoyed my #GDP407 Whale Watching Stargazing card. You can order the Stargazing Suite, Something Fancy dies, and Waves dies in my Online Store now and order the Whale Watching stamp set starting September 6th when the September-December 2023 Mini Catalog goes live.
