Stampin’ Up! Catching Butterflies Whirl Card

Card Measurements and Supply List for this project are found at the bottom of this blog post.

For this week’s Global Design Project lovely color challenge I finally used my Give it a Whirl dies and the charming Sale-A-Bration Catching Butterflies stamp set. I’ve been a little intimidated by the seemingly complicated Give it a Whirl stamp set, so I was pleasantly surprised at how easy and non-complicated it was to use! The images and sentiments in Catching Butterflies stamp set work fabulously with these dies and the colors in this week’s challenge.

GIVE IT A WHIRL DIES

Start with a Misty Moonlight cs card base. Die cut out the 2020-2022 In Color Magenta Madness DSP whirl panel including the window and Thick Basic White cs wheel & circle with the Give it a Whirl dies. I used the wheel die as a guide to stamp the sentiment and butterflies in Memento Black ink & with the Basic Black Stampin’ Write marker on the die cut Thick Basic White cs wheel. Be sure that you move the cardstock wheel under the die so the images will appear like you want in the window. I added color from the well of color from my ink pad lids to the butterflies with my Blender Pen and added Wink of Stella for sparkle.

To build your whirl mechanism –

  • Poke a hole in the center of the Thick Basic White cs circle.
  • Use a brad to attach the whirl panel with the window, the stamped & colored wheel, and the circle.
  • Place Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back of the mechanism in the corners and next to the wheel making sure that the Dimensionals don’t impede the wheel from spinning and attach to the card base.
  • I used a Basic Black Stampin’ Write marker to draw an arrow next to the wheel.

Stamp the girl with the net image from the Catching Butterflies stamp set in Memento Black ink on Thick Basic White cs. Die cut out the image with the Stitched So Sweetly dies. Color the image with Stampin’ Blends, ink added with a Blender Pen, and Wink of Stella for sparkle. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to add it to the card front.

Stamp the butterflies image multiple times in Memento Black ink on Thick Basic White cs. Use a Blender Pen to color the butterflies with ink from the well of color from my ink pad lids and add Wink of Stella for extra sparkle.

Fussy cut out the butterflies with paper snips. Use glue dots to add the butterflies to cover the top of the brad and to the card front. Add Iridescent rhinestones to the card front.

Don’t forget to add a Thick Basic White cs inside panel to add stability and to write your message. Stamp the sentiments from the Friends Are Like Seashells stamp set & the butterfly from the Catching Butterflies stamp set in Memento Black ink and add a strip of DSP to the inside and back of the card to pull the theme through.
