Grapefruit Grove Sunrise with the Flowering Desert

Monday morning arrived with a gorgeous sunrise in Southern Arizona and was inspiration for my Facebook Live card. You can watch the video here.

I love the 2019 Sale-A-Bration item Grapefruit Grove and Lovely Lipstick Foil sheets (you get 4 sheets of each). The colorful foil is great used as is but when you run it through the Big Shot with a Stampin’ Up! embossing folder it is even more awesome! For this project I used the Subtle 3D Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder on a piece of Grapefruit Grove.

The embossed foil catches the light and closely recreates the beautiful color of the sunrise.

I actually posted a poll, on my Facebook page, to pick the stamp set to use and Flowering Desert won. I started out dry stamping onto a piece of watercolor paper. I used the mountain stamp from the Waterfront stamp set first and then added the cacti from the Flowering Desert stamp set. I stamped the sentiment in Memento Black.

I lightly used my aqua painter to add Calypso Coral to the sky- making sure not to pull the Sahara Sand color from the mountains. Then using my aqua painter I lightly softened and blended the ink on the cacti. I did pull a little Call Me Clover color from the saguaro out and added a little Sahara Sand to the back ground with my aqua painter.

I also used an overlooked gem in the Annual Catalog – the Delicate Lace Edgelits – to finish this card. I used the one with the lovely stitched line and triangles in Sahara Sand cardstock that added an understated southwestern flare that complimented the embossed foil. I was happy with how this card turned out.
