I love the look you can achieve by embossing cardstock. The Garage Gears Thinlit Dies are especially fun embossed. To achieve the look I wanted – I embossed first in black embossing powder and then in silver embossing powder – double dipped.
I chose a variety of colors to work with including foil sheets. I ran all the cardstock through the Big Shot with the Subtle embossing folder giving the cardstock the desired texture.
Using the largest thinlit die cut out the gear pieces from each dry embossed color of cardstock.
Pat the Embossing Buddy over the cardstock gears. Rub the cardstock edges gently over the Versamark ink pad or in the places you want the embossing powder to stick. Dip the cardstock into the black embossing powder. (I use a plastic container with a tight fitting lid that locks closed to store my embossing powders). Tap off the excess and use tweezers to hold the cardstock firmly. Warm up the Heat Gun for a few moments before embossing the powder on the cardstock. You should see the powder turn glossy once melted. Be extra careful when embossing the foil – if you heated it too long you can melt the foil.
Since I wanted to emboss a stack of gears I embossed the whole stack in the black embossing powder first before embossing in the silver powder.
Then reapply Versamark where you want the silver embossing powder to go. Then dip the cardstock into the silver embossing powder. If you want a thick layer of the embossing powder – immediately redip the cardstock back into the powder while the last layer is still hot and sticky. Repeat until you have the desired coverage and thickness.
After I had embossed all the larger gears – I went back and cut smaller gears from the left over dry embossed cardstock and embossed them the same way I did the larger pieces.
Now I have a large selection of embossed gears to create with.
